Gavin Townes, Lompoc Valley 4-H
$1,000 SCHOLARSHIP IN 2021
Gavin recently graduated with honors from Lompoc High School where he maintained a 3.7 GPA and was a member of the California Scholarship Federation. In addition to his studies, Gavin played varsity football and varsity baseball and was recognized as a Scholar Athlete. He volunteered his time for numerous community service and fundraising events like Meal on Wheels, Relay for Life, March of Dimes, and Feed the Hungry. He also worked part-time as a foreman/ranch hand at Hayes Brother Ranches from 2014 to 2020.
Gavin was raised on a ranch and has a deep respect and passion for Ag – both crop and livestock. He has raised steers, heifers, and pigs for the last ten years through his participation in Lompoc Valley 4-H and Lompoc Valley FFA. Gavin is also an active member of Future Farmers of America and Future Business Leaders of America where he served as Class of 2021 Representative, Parliamentarian, and Treasurer. He currently works for G$ Show Cattle raising steers and heifers and represents the company at jackpots and shows.
Gavin will attend Allan Hancock College in the Fall. He is enrolled in the Ag program and will play on the baseball team. Once he has earned his associates degree, Gavin plans to transfer to a four-year university to study agribusiness, animal, or crop science.
